Molly Carmel, LCSW-R

Founder and Director

Molly has made it her life’s mission to help people find a sustainable solution to the battle of obesity and related eating disorders. After battling an eating disorder for over 20 years and finding no solution in available treatment, she began her professional path towards creating The Beacon. Molly has a personal dedication to helping you create change and find solutions that work for you. She molds your treatment at Beacon to fit your specific needs and lifestyle.

Molly is best known for her irreverent, “straight talk no chaser” attitude – it’s been said that she punches as hard as she hugs. She runs The Beacon with wisdom and passion – rigorously training staff, developing programming and helping clients break through barriers hindering success and into a life of recovery.

Molly believes that the skills and theories of Dialectical Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the Wise Mind are the keystones to help people to live their very best lives. In addition to her extensive training in DBT for Substance Users and Eating Disorders, Molly has completed the Advanced Intensive Training in DBT with Behavioral Tech, LLC. As a result, Beacon’s philosophies and programs are informed with DBT and CBT.

Molly’s work has been featured on The Today Show, The Dr. Oz Show, Dateline NBC, Anderson Cooper 360, and Extreme Makeover as well as in People Magazine and the Los Angeles Times. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Cornell University and her Master’s Degree from Columbia University’s School of Social Work.
