Sometimes, we hit lows. We have weeks when it just feels like everyday keeps getting worse and worse until we feel like we can’t go on anymore. What can we do to get out of these dark places and times?

One of the first things you have to realize when you are feeling dark is that there are others around you who have experiences similar to yours. While it may not be the same kind of depression, their experiences and guidance can help you tremendously. Don’t be afraid to get help.
Fighting depression works differently for different people. Getting in a structured routine is one way to help fight your thoughts. When you get in a routine, you know exactly what you’re doing and when you’re doing it-there’s no in between time for negative thoughts. Getting enough sleep and eating healthy can also help fight thoughts of depression. Scheduling bedtimes and eliminating naps can keep you from staying up all night with thoughts running through your head. There is no diet that will fix your depression. Depression can cause you to overeat, which can in turn cause more depression. Eating healthy can make you feel better physically and also mentally. There is also evidence that eating healthy foods like tuna and salmon that are high in omega-3 fatty acids could help ease depression.
No matter how bad and dark you feel, always remember that there is reason to keep pushing on. You may not think you affect anyone or anything, but you do. You were put on this planet for a purpose, so don’t let your thoughts take control. Be happy.
