September always feels like the beginning of something new. And for many of us it is! Starting the school year, the Jewish New Year (very very happy and healthy to those celebrating!), the coming of Fall – new beginnings are everywhere!
I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for a new beginning. Gives me a little supercharge, which used correctly is totally a superpower. But used not-so-correctly, that energy can can get a little dangerous – bringing me back to the temporary highs that come from starting a new diet (!!!).
Truth be told, I’ve made dramatic decisions about my food behaviors in the name of starting the year off right, always leading to weight gains and reparation plans right before winter!
So, how is a Buddy to use this refreshed Fall energy as a superpower and not a contact high? Here are three quick ideas to get you shining bright this fall:
If you never leave the basics, you never have to go back to the basics. Take a minute and dig out your food plan – the road map for your recovery. How does it look? Are you following it? If you’re not, what’s up? Does it need some tweaks or sprucing? Do you need a new food plan? A really good food plan will never let you down – so make sure yours is bulletproof and ready for Fall.
How’s your kitchen feeling? Summer – with all of its travel and parties and ins and outs can do a number on your kitchen. Take a few hours to remove all of the unlovable foods that may have creeped in (chips, whipped cream, cookies, the foods that may chat with you in the dark hours) and make a list of all of the lovable foods you need to bring back in. With your staples in hand and your liabilities out of the house, you’ll be feeling settled into your recovery in no time.
Recommit. If you feel like you’re in a bit of a post-summer slump, it’s a great time to recommit. Get your list of your Board of Directors out (if you don’t have one make one – stat) and see who you can tap on to support your recommitment. Whether its your coach (yay!), your bestie, your support group, feeling supported in the Fall (and all year round) only enhances your recovery. #ittakesavillage #wegotyourback #yourock
