It’s been a hard day’s night…
On Thursday I was chatting with a Beacon team member about what to Buzz about at the end of February. We were tired, cold and mutually came to the conclusion that finding fire in our bellies and deep motivation is a tough ask at the end of February.
It’s still winter. It’s pretty cold and wet here in NYC. And the days aren’t all that long yet. Know what I mean? DOING is often a tough ask at the end of winter. Cue one of our top 10 fave skills: Radical Acceptance. What if we decided to play the hand winter has dealt and embrace all that is the last week of February – warts and all. Winter is here for a reason and for many of us it’s hard to take its cue: turn inward and maybe, just maybe do LESS.
“Whaaaaaaaat, Molly?” Turn inward and do less? Do you know how much I have to get done?” Oh Buddies, I know. I get stuck on and caught up in being a human DOING rather than a human BEING like a moth does to a flame. #forreal
It’s hard to imagine that doing less could be a skill that can help us achieve our food and weight goals, isn’t it? And yet, recharging our batteries, taking a beat, chilling out and doing less is one of the most overlooked underrated skills around. Because all of that overload of running from place to person to appointment to errand and living in the hustle and bustle can sure get a Buddy tired, hungry and turning to food to chill out. And we ain’t got no time for that.
This morning, I had plans, Buddies, BIG DOING plans. I was going to meet with my spiritual community, get a manicure, go to a museum with my friend and her kids, finish some work for the week, go grocery shopping and meet a pal for dinner. I woke up with an inkling that maybe I needed to do less not more. And when I called my museum-plan bestie and told her how I felt today, she told me to STAY HOME. “Take care of YOU, Molly. Listen to your wise mind. Sometimes we don’t need to do or fix, but rather just be and chill.” And so I did. And sitting on my couch, looking outside at the rainy weather, having done less today, I can say, I am feeling a whole lot more recharged and ready to shine my light this week. Sometimes less really IS more! #thankssteph
This week, think about what you can do to honor the winter’s cue to do less, chill out and turn inward. Can you say no to a plan to go home and chill? Read more? Tea more? Craft more? Find some way to say yes to less? Self care is where it’s AT to help us to successfully navigate the road to recovery. #word
And Buddies, if nothing else, always remember Team Beacon hearts you – winter, spring, summer and fall! We are always wanting to know what’s up with you – Shoot us an email and let us know!
Sending sooooooo much love. And then a little more after that.
