Always have a plan!
We know that almost EVERYTHING in life — including successfully navigating the holidays and long term recovery has almost EVERYTHING to do with planning and almost NOTHING to do with willpower. If you’re working on willpower alone…pause…put it in reverse and make a plan!
This couldn’t be more true when it comes to the Holiday season when cookies, candy and pies are plentiful and the gravy is on, well, everything. Having a plan about what you are going to eat and what you are NOT going to eat is what separates the “oops” from the “phews” the morning after.
Even if you don’t stick to the plan, you are still navigating off of the plan instead of navigating off of… well, nothing.
As the saying goes…Fail to plan? Plan to fail.
Food For Thought This Holiday Season:
1. Write down your Plan ahead of time (or put into your phone for easy access)
2. Review the it with someone in your power circle for support and accountability
3. Identify and plan to use at least 5 of your favorite skills (so that if you get off plan, you can stop and NOT make an icky situation worse!)
