Your sugar detox does not have to wait until New Year’s Day to get off the ground — seize the opportunity now and give it a go!
I don’t know about you, but regardless of my education status, I always start September with the back to school jitters. Know what I mean? A crispness in the air; the change of seasons … sweaters! In New York City, this is the time that everyone files back into the city ready to finish out the year with a bang!
What in the world does this have to do with sugar detox? Jan 1 may be the actual New Year, but for me, September comes with the same sense of newness and revitalization. And Merriam-Webster says that revitalization is “to make someone or something active, healthy, or energetic again.” Count. Me. In.
How do you revitalize your recovery from your issues with food and weight? No worries! That, as we say at Beacon, is a problem to be solved. And there is nothing like a little assessment and inventory to get some data on where you are, where you want to be, and what might be missing in your less-than-revitalized recovery:
1. Where do I feel my recovery is sluggish, stagnant, lethargic? Does my food feel blah? Am I over my current meditation regime? Am I not feeling as supported as I once was? What an opportunity! Like any relationship you have in your life, your recovery is no different – sometimes you need a little shake up to get the blood flowing and the excitement back in! Try a new recipe! Download a new meditation app! Try a new group! #theworldisyouroyster
2. Is there something that I know would make my recovery full of life and I’m scared to try? You know I’m a biiiiiig fan of your wise mind, and your wise mind may know what would make your recovery a healthier, more enjoyable place to live. Just ask it! Maybe trying that yoga class at the studio across the street? Signing up for online dating? Trying rock climbing? The list is truly endless. Sometimes the jolt your recovery needs extends beyond the realm of food and weight (shocker!) and attending to those issues makes everything else a little easier.
3. What is imperative to supporting my health? To feel revitalized in your sugar detox, you need to BE revitalized – and that means attending to your health – body, mind and soul. Have you made your check up with your doctor? Are you attending to your sleep? How’s the meditation practice?
The beauty of all of these suggestions is that trying ONE of them can help to change how you’re feeling about your entire recovery.
